Highmage’s Plight, the first book of the complete seven book epic fantasy series, is free on Kindle February 1 through the 5th. Plight was my first published novel. I first began writing it when I was a college student--and after a few rejections I stopped submitting it. But I kept re-writing it and re-writing it for years, and writing its sequels. Then one day I no longer cared about whether or not a publisher rejected it. I sent it out again--and a publisher sent me a contract.

Before I ever received that contract I attended the Superstars Writing Seminar. That was, hmm, January of 2011. The seminar is a business of being a science fiction and fantasy writer. Among the presenters were the founders of the seminar, Kevin J. Anderson, Eric Flint, Brandon Sanderson, and David (Farland) Wolverton,

Eric Flint, who passed away almost a year ago, did a presentation on understanding a contract--and what I learned I've never forgotten. (I went to his contract presentation again the next time I attended Superstars, a few years later, too.) This month I'll again be attending Superstars. There will be three hundred people participating. Among the bestselling authors who will be presenting are Jim Butcher, Jonathan Maberry. James Artimus Owens, and Dean Wesley Smith. There is a pre-conference craft day add-on and beyond the opportunities to continue learning about the latest information about the business and marketing is the wonderful opportunity to network. 

In other news, I've been working on the sequel to Lessers Not Losers, Bred in Captivity Book 1. The working title is Children of a Lesser Dragon. It will continue where Lessers Not Loser ending, where Eddy, Carrie, Tease, and Fin continue to help the underground railroad of rescuing children with psychic gifts from a fate worse than death. When I finish this draft, I'll be going back to working on the third book in the Knights Tower Series and a companion novella. In the meantime, Changeling Knight, Knights Tower Book 2, is now available in paperback.
