Mercedes Lackey to be honored at Nebulas
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Society of America (SFWA) has announced that Mercedes Lackey will be named Grand Master at the Nebula Conference this spring. I have a number of favorite authors. I’m a big fan of her Valdemar novels and have been for what must be 30 years.
Those books offer a twist on magic. There’s magic in that world, but there’s also “mind magic,” psychic gifts. The people of Valdemar are refugees, who fled through a gate to Haven. The stories are rich with mystery and adventure, but it is the Companions, the telepathic white horses that the Heralds of Valdemar ride that, well, makes the stories for me.
I’m so pleased that Meredes Lackey is being recognized for her decades of writing. The Heralds and Companions are as important to me as a fan as Anne McCaffrey’s dragons and their riders on Pern.
