Author Update - Dare 2 Believe Free on Kindle for Limited Time Only

I’ve had a difficult couple of weeks. Life happens, and though I’ve expected my mother, who has been under hospice care, to pass for some time, it finally happened and still hit me hard.

I began getting published only about 17 years ago. That was a time of major transition for me. I was the midst of a divorce and moved back in with my folks while also between jobs, for just a couple of months. I was looking for work and begun submitting short stories I’d been rewriting for years—and weirdly, after years of rejection, they were getting accepted.I wrote one about death and dying, Immortal State, and my folks read it. They sat down with me and suddenly shared their health directives—something they’d never talked about, not even with each other. That’s how they learned they had very different desires and I learned what they wanted and didn’t.

Mom read a number of my stories, even a non-fiction book proposal and realized, in that way only a mother can, that she was so surprised I had talent.

Ah, mothers… Yes, that's how she said, too. In that time living with them again I’d learned about a business of writing sci fi and fantasy seminar. My mom, knowing I was in no position to afford going, told me it was time she made an investment in me. Less than a year after attending that conference, I was reading my first book contracts (two different ones from two different small presses). Oh, and I had a new job with a new career. (Never give up your day job was a major lesson of that conference.)

During that time I started writing my Dare 2 Believe Series, using my epic fantasy Highmage’s Plight Series as a backdrop. Dare is a contemporary series. Dare 2 Believe, the first book in the series, is free on kindle for a very limited time.

One warning—there are spoilers connected to my Plight series. You don’t need to have read the Plight to enjoy Dare, but it will add to the fun.

In other news, my novella trilogy, prequels to the Apocalypse Knot series, Apocalypse or Bust is available in print and ebook not just on Amazon but through a variety of ebook platforms for the low sale price of $2.99 (ebook). This series is as close as I will ever get to writing Ender’s Game. These stories feature a robotic tank competition, a competion that becomes a matter of life and death.
