Back from Ravencon
I was at ravencon last weekend…
I was on a number of panels and did an author signing, which is always fun.
Among the panels I was on were: “How Fantasy Makes History Approachable,” which I moderated, “Babylon 5: Warnings from the Future,” “Writing YA for Young Adults,” and “Why the Last Starfighter is a Cult Classic.”
I’d like to share some of my thoughts on Babylon 5, and the insights it offers. As the panelists, all as big fans of the series as I am, shared their thoughts on how the show seemed to reflect concerning aspects of the world we live in today, I shared that history is cyclical and seems to repeat itself. What J. Michael Straczynski did writing Babylon 5 was reflect those recurring lessons from history and set them into his epic tale—not just predict what may happen in the future, or even now years after the series aired.
One of the members of the audience chimed in that J. Michael Straczynski had once done a Q&A he was at and stated the very same thing.
That session and our discussion of the characters, their arcs, and the challenges they faced, particularly their choices, really seemed prescient in the polarized culture we live in today. The show if it came out today would seem almost just as topical and cautionary.
I currently working on my next book in my Apocalypse Knot Series, tentatively titled, Bigfoot Apocalypse.
My novella trilogy, prequels to the Apocalypse Knot series, Apocalypse or Bust is now available in print and ebook not just on Amazon but through a variety of ebook platforms for the low sale price of $2.99 (ebook).
Check out the stories of a team of girls seeking to win a robotic tank competition—featuring mini-versions of World War II tanks. The prize—getting into an all-boys military academy for mechanized calvary. The cadets will do anything to keep them out, fearing they will herald the Apocalypse. Problem is—it does!
My forthcoming novel, Knight Sky, the next book in my Knights Tower Series, is still in the hands of its editor. I’ll keep you apprised as it moves forward—as the next step will include commissioning coverart. In other words, the fun part…
My novella, Of Deeds and Steeds, a prequel to my Highmage’s Plight series, is featured this month in the promo, Epic Sci-Fi & Fantasy, where you can find a lot more free stories to help enjoy the spring.
Dare 2 Believe,
