One of my favorite local cons to attend is Balticon, held over Memorial Day weekend, which will be free virtually again this year. I’ve submitted ideas for panels over the years, but this year, I offered three. One of which I keep thinking about (which may or not make their final list)—how Covid 19 effects science fiction, even contemporary fantasy, going forward. A few months ago, I was virtually at another con and the assertion was made that we should stay away (sort of like the Plague) from stories about Covid 19 for years. People are going to be turned off by them, then I got a rejection for an anthology with a taking off mask theme (about revealing ourselves) and the editors shared that not a single submission had anything to do with Covid and they would have accepted such a story in an instant.
My forthcoming book is a satire adventure which features an Apocalypse with a pandemic. Not like the stand or even Covid. I’ve spent years working on this book only to have to rewrite a bit with Covid behind us and I’ve rewritten it not to ignore Covid, but I don’t know how well even that will go over. Then again, I can only hope readers will like the story… Bigfoot is Not Your Friend, which I am now offering for beta readers to review.
This is both a satire and an action adventure, running at what may be the longest length of any first book in series, or perhaps in this case a trilogy, I’ve ever written. My goal is to utilize the feedback to make any changes necessary based of reader feedback before publication and to gather reviews for the launch. The review link of Bigfoot is Not Your Friend offers a free sample of the book (which is novella length and the opening chapters of the book). There is a brief application process involved. I’m currently also offering the review opportunity as part of a group reviewing promo opportunity: Fantasy and Science Fiction Feast: Support Authors by Reading and Reviewing Books, which you may want to check out -- or just click on the book's title above to check the opportunity.
Now where you can find free stories — including a number of mine. The Dragon’s Curse (novella), which is a lead-in to my Highmage’s Plight and Hands of the Highmage series, is featured in #AlienSeasons Science Fiction and Fantasy Giveaway.
My novella, Last Knight, prequel to Knight of the Broken Table is available for free in the Merry March Science Fiction and Fantasy Giveaway. Knight of the Broken Table and Nowhere to Go But Mars are also now available in the promo Spring into Sci-Fi Fantasy Books on Kindle Unlimited!
